I leave at 04:45 to travel 16 or 17 miles to Big Lake Youth Camp. I’ll be there before 11:30. This summer camp reserves the PCT hikers a large building with tables, kitchenette, shower, toilet, laundry, dryer, loan clothes and several hikers.

The reception is remarkable. I take a shower, do a laundry, recharge all electronics and join the summer camp hosts for a buffet lunch at will. A small shop even allows you to buy some ice cream. The whole works mainly on donation.

I’m leaving around 15:00 for another 13 miles. A nap after the buffet would have been tempting, but this advance will make the next day easier. I intend to go to bed early once I get there.
