Day 60Dunsmuir, California
At the camp overlooking Mount Shasta, I meet Spoon and Belly Slater. They plan to climb the mountain with their families the next day. The sunset is beautiful.
Then I go down to Castella. Rather than making the detour through Dunsmuir or Mount Shasta, I stop at the gas station near the trail. It is enough to eat, buy supplies and use the catch of the nearby small post, even if the recharge is very slow.
A driver takes me back to the PCT. I’m continuing on high sun-exposed climbs and meeting a SOBO called Old Mac. He thinks I’m around the tenth or eleventh northbounder again on this part of the trail.
I was thinking of adding 4 miles to the day, but bulbs appear under the right foot with heat and sweat. I’m back to the original plan.
