Day 16Pearblossom, California

After returning to the secondary trail from Wrightwood, I cross an area marked by fires and trees cut. I sleep alone in a campground still closed for the season, without water but with some tables and facilities.

In the morning, I begin the ascent of Mount Baden-Powell. Some snowfields remain and the clouds stay below the ridge, creating a spectacular view. The terrain becomes more technical, with snow, rocks and more elevation gain. It is one of the 1st truly mountainous sections of the trail.

A small blister hurts and requires attention, but the beauty of the section more than makes up for it. I also see several beehives before continuing for a few more miles.
