Day 56Shasta County, California
I get up a little later to get to the opening of Old Station and Hat Creek Resort. J-y recharges my devices, buys a small gas cartridge and takes 2 burritos breakfasts, hot chocolate and the store’s famous ice cream. Each scoop is actually equivalent to two huge balls.
The land then changes. Burned areas and trunks disappear, leaving a path cleaner, lower and highly exposed to heat. The atmosphere reminds again the desert. Water becomes less frequent and some caches reappear.
I push 2 or 3 miles further than expected to arrive at Burney Mountain Guest Ranch very early the next day. I can have breakfast, do a laundry, shower and go back in the afternoon instead of paying a useless night.
The day is also marked by gastric problems which require several stops. I’m testing Imodium for the first time. I finally met a hiker called Summer Santa before joining the camp near a water cache.
