Day 43Alpine County, California
I take advantage of Kennedy Meadows North to recharge, repair and refurbish 5 days of supplies to Sierra City. The place is convenient but unfriendly: a noisy generator adjoins the small area reserved for hikers and the prices are very high. After several burgers in a row, I also start to dream of something else.
I buy 1 pair of cheap sticks, sunscreen and some mosquito products. I finally fix the jacket with a suitable patch. When I lock the bear canister on the bag, I break a strap. Pain also occurs between the ankle and the tibia after the previous big days.
My hand remains swollen and covered with small blisters. The most likely hypothesis is irritation related to gloves that remain wet for several days. I’ve lost nearly 10 kilos since the start. I take oil and look for fatter foods to increase calories.
I’m leaving around 14:30 with Gavin. He also warns me that my filter, probably frozen in the Sierra, can be damaged without it being visible. Despite the fatigue and these small problems, I am happy to gradually enter Northern California.
