Day 41Bridgeport, California

The day before was probably my most complicated day. It snowed almost continuously in Yosemite’s heights. The tracks were disappearing or leaving in the wrong directions, I had to open the passage, misled me several times and only travelled about 21 miles instead of the 27 planned.

I break my last stick and replace it with a branch, necessary both to walk and to mount my tent. My jacket is tearing up too. Everything is wet: tent, down, clothes and shoes. The phone’s USB port refuses to charge because of water, while my external battery is almost empty.

I camp near François and Madeleine. She fell into a river trying to cross a trunk. We leave together in the morning, reassured not to face new bad conditions alone. The sun comes back for a few hours and we spend near a beautiful lake, then I resume my rhythm.

My concerns are now very concrete: saving the phone, repairing the dudoune, finding new sticks and drying all the equipment.
