Day 33Big Pine, California

After Forester Pass, I continue on a common portion with the John Muir Trail. Lakes, passes and mountains follow spectacular landscapes. I’m crossing Glen Pass.

I understand how the hour of passage changes the difficulty. In the morning, the snow is hard and the microspikes hang well. Later, it softens, the feet sink and slope crossings become slower and more dangerous. Daily distances fall naturally.

The torrents also grow during the day with melting. For some passages, I remove my shoes, for others, I cross directly with, since they are already soaked in snow. I always keep a pair of dry socks for the night. Today, 2 new passes are waiting, including the second one at the end of the day: an impractical schedule that I will try to avoid in the future.
