Day 52Meadow Valley, California

View on map

Late the day before arrives in a burnt area, with little water and almost no location. After a detour to a source, I finally find a place to camp. By removing my shoes, I discover that almost all my toes and front feet are irritated, perhaps because of dirty socks and moisture.

In the morning, the trail turns into an obstacle course. Fires have left dozens of trees lying down: it is necessary to climb them, crawl under, bypass whole tangles and sometimes find the path. I fall several times, chew hands and legs, then rain begins.

I go down to Bucks Lake and walk on the road to the General Store. I eat it, buy more calorie supplies and take a sandwich for the next day. A motorist then takes me back to the PCT, saving me about an hour and a half.

The day, very badly engaged, ends better than expected. I even get a little bit ahead of my program.
