Day 50Sierra City, California

View on map

The day before, I finally grow up to 35 miles to keep only 6 before Sierra City. My Achilles tendons are very stiff when I wake up, as before Kennedy Meadows South and a break seems necessary.

A little after 8:00 at Red Moose Café. The PCT hiker breakfast is huge: sausages, bacon, eggs, potatoes and pancakes. I then complete my supplies at the General Store and finally send back the bear canister. The bag becomes much more pleasant to wear.

Most accommodations are not yet really open. Cannot book a room, take a hot shower or use a laundromat. I fold on public toilets: hand washing and cold shower. It’s not very comfortable, but it’s enough.

I leave at about 15:00 after a second coffee meal. The paths are now rolling enough to go downhill. However, I have to be less overplanning: check every restaurant, business and accommodation schedule takes a lot of time and sometimes makes me sleep too little.

I also gradually find a more dense diet: tortilla-Nutella in the morning, large trail mix, more protein, dehydrated fruits and a small dessert in the evening. After the weight loss of the Sierra, eating becomes an essential part of the program.
