Day 46Break at Lake Tahoe (Echo Lake, California)
I walk a few miles with Johannes, a German and Prime, a Scotsman, to the road to South Lake Tahoe. A driver named James takes us to town. We start with a huge breakfast: omelette, potatoes, fresh fruit, toast, hot chocolate and Coke at will.
I then take advantage of the city to repair the strap of my bag, return the pipet and the microspikes, replace my potentially frozen filter and buy a new pair of Altra. I’m also looking for gaiters, without finding a model that suits me. Supply is voluntarily richer than usual.
The city is extended and bus trips take time. I run from one store to another before the return trip scheduled at 17:30, while looking for a bottle compatible with my filter. After a last burger and a milkshake, we are deposited near Echo Lake. We still walk a few miles to camp.
This day in town is effective: the essential equipment is repaired or replaced, calories are returned and the bag finally contains enough food to start recovering.
